THE VIRGIN PARISH CHURCH

The ancient church is the oldest building in Grimsby. Holy Trinity and St. Mary served for many centuries as the Parish Church for the farming village of Clee and the fishing hamlets of Clee Thorpes. The saxon tower dates from 1050AD. The nave was rebuilt, and the transepts added in Norman times. St Hugh, the first Bishop of Lincoln, re-dedicated the church on March 5th, 1192, during the reign of King Richard 1 – The “Lionheart”.
